Excellent. From start to finish. Goat cheese app, lobster bisque soup, pork entree and the seasonal Alaskan salmon... Marvelous. Debbie was a very attentive and superb server! Top notch. Watching the sunset was an amazing perk.

The dining room & view are beautiful and great attention was taken to the artwork and overall atmosphere. With that said, we left disappointed. MENU Standard options that are prepared with local products. They did not have a vegetarian option on the menu that evening. When asked they offered a pasta primavera of sorts. Kudos for coming up with something but we were disappointed by their lack of creativity and that they didn't offer a non-pasta option. FOOD I had a very tasty Summer Salad with local cherries and candied walnuts. I'm told the scallops and polenta were good as well. SERVICE Acceptable.

I so wanted to like this place, but both the wife and I were distinctly underwhelmed by the quality of the service and the food. We sat down and I ordered a glass of single malt Scotch "neat" and a glass of club soda with ice. Not too difficult - especially for a place that claims to be "renowned for creating a dining experience that rivals the brilliant sunsets seen from every table in the dining room". Well, our server brings me a single glass of Scotch mixed with club soda. Umm, what part of Scotch neat with a glass of club soda on the side did you not understand? Moving on to our meal: I ordered the Seafood Spaghettoni which was described as "Hand Rolled Pasta, Preserved Lemon, Saffron, Little Neck Clams, Mussels, Grilled Calamari, Prawns & Shaved Octopus". What it tasted like was a seafood medley (sparsely) sprinkled on top of undercooked pasta with butter. It was bland, tasteless, and pretty much inedible. I had our server wrap up the 3/4s of the entree I didn't eat but shouldn't have bothered because I just threw it away

Top notch experience! Go here. Excellent servive. Had the halibut and fish of the day. Both were perfectly done. Our server was polite and attentive. Also had a bottle of artemis wine which always make you smile. Had the mussels appetizer which was good. Mussels a bit small but fresh :). Best place in door county hands down.

5 stars. The service the food- everything was phenomenal. Mathew was excellent and the bus staff very attentive. Suggest reservations but well worth everything. Got us sat right away. Gf had perch. Love the cucumber jalapeño tartar sauce. I had the osso bucco w grits. Omg fall of the bone tender. Great times in door county.

I travel a great deal. My experience is, Great view = mediocre service, worse food. Not true here. Good to great food. Good service in high season and great service when things slow down in the fall. The owner/ hostess is a sweetheart that seems to handle the crush in high season and the occasional rich and self absorbed with more grace than I would be able to muster. Probably why the family has done so well in Door County and we eat here a couple of times every time we drive up to " the Door".

I'm sad to be the first to have a not-so-awesome experience at the waterfront. First, we sat at the bar and had cocktails. Both were watery or rather the mixer was overwhelming. The snail app we had was OK nothing spectacular. We split a small order of the truffle pasta which was quite good and I was happy that they made their own pasta. R had the duck and he was very under whelmed by it and it was recommended by the waiter so that was confusing. I had the scallops which were cooked well but the accompanying garnish of mushrooms were so strongly flavored with vinegar that I could not appreciate the scallops or the mushrooms. The waiter was very nice and did recommend a tasty wine. I sadly feel that this restaurant gets high marks due to the sunset putting people in a state of euphoria.

The best in Door County... Especially after Saveur closed it's doors in Baileys Harbor last year. Good wine list - if you know what your hunting - and top notch food made with care and great flavors.

Simply amazing. Every bite was wonderful! Small menu but, thrilled with the options. We spent our 7th wedding anniversary here and will be back!!!

Wonderful food and service. My wife and I shared a pasta dish and I had a grilled heart of romaine salad that was wonderful. We arrived for dinner and had a great seat near the windows with an excellent view. The food was exquisite but quite pricey.

Ugg I hate giving this place a two when the food was so good but I have to put my foot down. I was so excited to have a nice night out at the end of my first trip to Door County but unfortunately that was not to be. When our server brought our drinks to the table, she knocked my boyfriend's water over and all over his lap and very expensive, dry-clean only shirt. Now, accidents happen. I am such a klutz myself and I am always spilling on him. However, this water was ice cold and we had just sat down. He went to the bathroom and the server barely said I'm sorry. When he returned, a new drink was waiting for him. We continued the meal but he was forced to sit in wet pants. When the check came, the server had only taken one drink off of the bill. In the opinion of the entire table, more should have been done. The food was great, I loved the seafood because it was unbelievably fresh and the dessert was fabulous as well. I just can't stand it when any establishment has terrible service, especially an expensive upscale location such as this. Maybe when I return next summer, I can update this review if no one spills a drink on me.

Great food! My wife and I go for the tapas night every Wednesday and it is fabulous. Definitely try out the shrimp and cheddar grits, thy are to die for. When I'm in the mood for something more than small plate dining, I get the bone in rib eye steak. So amazing my mouth is watering as I speak. Wash that bad boy down with a nice red wine and you're in the mood for loving life.

I don't know if they were having an off night or had already packed up their charm since the season was ending but our experience at Waterfront Restaurant was not the way to end an incredible weekend in Door County. My aunt is a world traveler and whether we are exploring Paris or seeing the colors in Door County, she plans ahead to ensure each moment of the vacation is picked out and our reservations don't just include a time but a pre-picked out table. She had been in communication with the owner of Waterfront pre-trip and had laid out two specifics; we wanted a table with the view of the sunset and windows, and we had two birthdays to celebrate. We were a party of 10 and if you have glanced at the sample menu, that check was going to be (and ended up being) huge. Would it be worth it to utilize a little customer service for that revenue? I think so. Regardless, the owner let my aunt know that a party of our size would not fit in the crowded dining room. Now here is how the night played out: We check in - we hang our coats in a "coat room" and upon further investigation, my brother realizes the unwatched coat room also has an open and unlocked door to the outside - don't leave your valuables! We are brought to our table that is in quite possibly the least flattering area of the entire restaurant, half our table faced a blank wall, it wasn't well lit and any view of the windows for ANYONE, we were instructed we could easily "get up and walk up to the windows" (i love eating standing up!). The food was mediocre - the menu had been recently switched to a winter selection. I had a version of their fish fry - the fish had very little meat and was placed atop a chorizo coleslaw with a tartar sauce. I will say the tartar sauce was incredible but there was way too much going on to enjoy it. Too many flavors that cannibalized one another. All the while we are watching the dining room which remained empty. My aunt didn't challenge the owner pre-meal because she can't know what the reservation list looks like, but it became very clear that the reservation list was nonexistent. Would it have killed them to put us in the dining room and have walk ins (if there had been any, there were not that evening) in the room to the side? It was incredibly disappointing to see that play out all while we ate our meal in the back room. OK - so like I said, my aunt took the time to call ahead and explain it was two birthday celebrations. Well, at this point with the crappy table, the mediocre food, i was getting a bit irritated. THEN, one little dessert comes out while we sing happy birthday and look around for the second dessert to come out for the other birthday, to no avail it does not come out. At this point I am glaring our waiter down thinking "what the hell?" So my aunt pulls him aside and explains, and guess what? And here is the problem with the food service industry - this poor guy had brought the little cake out because he overheard us say it was my moms birthday, he was doing something NICE - the information my aunt took the time to explain to the owner never even trickled down to him! He had NO idea! So while we are giving this guy the evil eye it was really the OWNERS fault for not bothering to relay any information. Nice customer service. Here's my thing - this place was expensive. No one at our table drank, we shared appetizers, and we each had a meal and it still came to around $60 a person. I know that the food to prepare the entire meal probably cost them 1/5 of the entire bill, so what are we paying for? Customer service, a beautiful ambiance, a wonderful evening - well guess what? If you are going to charge those prices, you set the expectation high and you better serve up what we are paying for. Icing on the cake - the owner asks us how our evening was, and my aunt was going to just walk out and leave but decided to kindly express our disappointment. No apology, no shred of customer service (in fact when we complained the first time they didn't bother to compensate on the bill either!), instead "well I mean, you enjoyed your time with your family right?" Yeah, but we could have enjoyed each others company at home and not given your restaurant $600 - which I think is what we will do next time - thanks for the suggestion!

This is a terrific restaurant that has it all; great food, attentive service and perfect ambience. It was a special birthday celebration and I wanted this to be a memorable night of dining out. From the perfectly prepared martinis to the wonderful dessert, the evening was outstanding. On Thursdays they offer a special hand-rolled pasta menu where you choose your choice of soup, salad and hand-rolled pasta. You pick your choice of 3 items - you can even pick 3 pastas if you wish. I ordered a wedge salad, Papparedelle Bolognese and Risotto. Every course was outstanding but the Papparedelle Bolognese was world-class in my opinion. Beef, pork and veal are simmered for 9 hours to create this incredible sauce. Many restaurants claim to offer Bolognese but it really is just red gravy with ground beef. The sauce that this chef creates reminded me of the wonderful Bolognese once served at the long-gone Como Inn in Chicago. Sadly, I was only able to eat a small portion of my Risotto course. Once again, this was a deliciously creamy lemon Risotto that melted on the tongue with its incredible richness. My wife raved about the Lobster Bisque and after sampling a spoonful I wish I had ordered it but the reality is that I would not have been able to finish my other dishes. I hope it doesn't take us another 10 years to return to Door County. I know that when we do, I'll be calling to make reservations at The Waterfront. If you want an excellent dining experience, you can't go wrong!

Hands down the best restaurant in Door County. The service is impeccable and the food and wine is always outstanding. I come here at least once every year with my family and it's always fabulous (and the view is pretty outstanding as well!) I always share the lobster bisque and a wedge salad with someone at the table, those are definitely ones to not miss. The rest of their menu changes with the seasons. This time around I tried the scallops (paired with ravioli and a delicious sauce) and the ahi tuna entree (light, refreshing and summery). My only complaint with this place is that it gets really noisy with how open the dining room is. They already have carpet down on the floors but if they could get a sound engineer in there to figure out how to improve the noise level, that would be awesome!

Sorry I have to give it one star. The wife that is the hostess is a witch. We were there for 20 minutes and and now know why JJ opened up another restaurant- just to be away from her!

Possibly the best steak I have ever had. We watched a beautiful sunset on our 25th wedding anniversary while having dinner. The staff was so nice that when they found out it was our anniversary they gave us desert free with "happy anniversary " written on chocolate on the dish. What a lovey spot and great food with terrific service. Definitely special.

Greatest dinner we have had in Door County!! Highly recommend on quality of food, service was very attentive, prices fit the restaurant. We wanted a NICE restaurant and found it all very accommodating. Wrote this some time ago but would love to come back.

This is the best restaurant in Door County. If you are indecisive don't worry because anything you order is amazing! But the Tuna is to die for! Great cocktails and view too!

My wife and I came here for our anniversary after reading many of the positive reviews. We weren't disappointed. Excellent friendly and knowledgeable staff made us feel like frequent guests. The food did not disappoint and what you would expect for the price. We visited in November so darkness set in before our reservations unfortunately. We'll be back next time in the door peninsula.

Everything was near perfect and worth the big city prices. The reason I did not give them a 5 is the lamb chops. While they were done exactly the way I ordered them and the flavor was wonderful, someone needs to watch for bone fragments! When the inside of your mouth gets stabbed on the second bite, it takes away some of the pleasure.

A highlight of our trip. We actually stayed for over three hours we had such a nice time! Service was impeccable. Food was fantastic, although a limited menu. We had the scallops which melted in our mouths, pork shank which did the same, and rack of lamb. Wow it was phenomenal! Thought chef Ramsey was in the back! Thank you to our hostess who even took pictures of us outside at sunset, and our waiter. Drinks were awesome also! He was right on cue with the recommendations! Top notch all around!! If we get back there we will definitely make this a stop again!

Waterfront view with superb food and impeccable service? If this isn't five stars then it doesn't exist in Door County and this IS five stars. We started out with the pork belly appetizer which is to bacon as eggs are to a souffle, loosely related but doesn't quite give you the idea. It was so savory and delicious that my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I then had the Greens salad with all my favorites - cheese and pear with greens and a divine dressing. Then, I had this amazing lamb - Mary's little lamb would volunteer to be this dish, that's how good it is. The meal ended with a tart, creamy piece of flavorful wonder that they call a lemon goat cheese tart. Sigh of bliss. Flash of irritation, why do I live so far from this restaurant?

Best restaurant I ate at in Door County and Sister Bay. Al Johnson's is honestly a joke and Kristofer's has slipped with the new ownership. Wife had scallops with ravioli and I had the halibut. Both prepared to perfection. Beautiful upscale dining, yet affordable and not required to dress formal.

Scallops, a great view and not eating boiled fish. Great night. Not sure why the woman at the next table brought her 8 year old daughter, not a kid place. Her high pitched chatter was luckily only there for the end of our meal. People, it's called a b.a.b.y.s.i.t.t.e.r. - check it out. Had pork belly, caesar salad, great scallops and lemon tart. Everything was great and we made it to our play easily. Going to Door County? Skip the fish boil and go here instead!

The food was fabulous, the service was great, the beauty of the sunset was surpassed only by my wife's! We had the lamb & scallops & both were fabulous. Also the grilled lettuce of the day was unique & tasty! A definite recommendation.

Another top-notch place in door County. If you are planning ahead of time, see if you can get a table that views the lake during sunset time. They have really good food here. It's definitely on the higher end of cost but well worth it.

Perfect setting on the water with the best sunset view for a restaurant in Door with fantastic ambience. Service is always top notch and wait staff has rarely turned over since we've been going the last 5 years. Never been disappointed with their meat or fish and always is difficult to decide what to order. Their fish and sauces are special though. Home made noodles are very good and I would not miss the truffled cream pasta dish. THeir wine list is very good and fairly priced. Yeah, this is a glowing review but i've been so many times and look forward to returning. I have never been steered wrong with food or wine. Always worth the price! Don't miss it if you visit Door.

I was very much looking forward to a nice dinner at the Waterfront, especially after reading all of the rave reviews. This was sadly not the case. After consulting the menu online, I was excited to see a few vegetarian entrees, all of which were pasta. After making reservations, when I arrived at the restaurant, there was only one vegetarian option on the menu--a dish of pasta with some porcini oil. I was hoping to get something a bit more exciting than that, so I consulted the waiter, who was very willing to help but didn't quite understand that I didn't just want plain pasta. After they consulted the chef, they said that they could make an entree of the ravioli that accompanies the scallop dish. When my entree arrived, it was four pieces of ravioli on top of a few vegetables. I am normally not one to complain about entree sizes but it was seriously disappointing. It cost $35. The taste was mediocre. I will not be returning.

Maybe because it is the end of the season, but my husband and I were not impressed with our meals their on Saturday night (10/26/13). They had a very limited menu (maybe 10 selections) and everything was stacked on top of each other in the middle of the plate. Sometimes this works, but not on our dinners. We have dined here in previous years, but at that time, the menu seletion was greater and a person had choices as to vegtable and starch associated with the entree. Service was just o.k., even though they were not terribly busy. Our waiter was definitely wishing he was somewhere else and we had to track him down several times. This was very disappointing as we always save our last weekend in Door for our trip to the Waterfront. We may have to look into other options next year.

Many places around here will claim the offer up the "fine dining" experience but this is one of few places that actually does. The Ribeye is as actually advertised as were the side dishes. Like all touristy restaurants with nice views, this place is pricy. For a nice evening out, a place to consider going. Pretty extensive wine selection as well.

By far one of the best meals I have ever had.... My boyfriend and I went up to Door County for a romantic weekend away. We hit up all the local spots, did wine tasting and had our final dinner here at Waterfront Restaurant. WOW was it good! We started off with wine and an appetizer- the scallops. They were so delicious. Perfectly cooked and the bacon and snap-peas were a perfect touch. Along with the rosemary bread, we were already pretty happy before the entrees were even served. My boyfriend ordered the swordfish, which was new for him, and he loved the dish. It was prepared to perfection and very tasty. I'm not a HUGE fish person, but I thought it was great as well. The big hit, was my dish- the bone in ribeye. Every flavor on this plate was absolutely amazing. My mouth waters right now just typing this. It was served with asparagus and roasted red potatoes. So good! We both joked the next day that we would consider making the 4 hour+ drive from Chicago simply to dine at Waterfront once again.

Thanks to other reviewers, we gave this place a shot and had a wonderful meal this evening. Beautiful dining room, lovely view and great service. We shared the bone in ribeye, definitely plenty for two persons. We shared desert also, rhubarb and blueberry crisp. It's great that there is a restaurant like this in Door County to feed those of us who are used to fine dining in Chicago!

My favorite restaurant in Door County. Make a reservation and get a seat towards the back of the restaurant so you can watch the sun set over Lake Michigan. I was wearing a blazer, but after a quick scan upon entering noticed that I was the only one with a jacket. If it were in the city you'd definitely see more jackets. You can get away with nice jeans and a collared shirt, but you'd probably feel awkward if you stopped in here with board shorts and a t-shirt. My wife and I shared a brie appetizer, which was fantastic. We each had a glass of wine. I ordered Frutti de Mare, which came with some very large prawns. She ordered a Bolognese dish. Everything was great and with tip we came in at just under $100, which I think is totally acceptable for a great sunset enhanced dinner.

  • Kai Z.

My fiance and I splurged here on our last night in Door County, and The Waterfront is fantastic. Great food, great decor, and a great view, especially at sunset. My jalapeno corn chowder was the best chowder I've ever had, and the cioppino had everything in the sea - shrimp, scallops, escolar (buttery and grilled to perfection), andouille sausage. The saffron rice aioli topping it tasted like ecstasy. Everything was cooked to perfection, and nothing was overwhelming. The quality ingredients, cooked simply, spoke for themselves. Our waiter was helpful and friendly, and it was a great fine dining experience without any of the pretentiousness.

This place... IS AMAZING. This is not really one of my normal reviews because I have been here only once, but that all it took to win me over... This place is literally a 5 star restaurant and should be rated as such. Has a gorgeous view of the lake and I will upload some pictures later of the sunset we saw! I went here with my buddy and his family and his generous and hospitable grand parents treated me to dinner here! It is VERY expensive but also worth the prices the food was absolutely delicious and made-to-order by the chef. He made a special steak for my buddies grandpa. If anyone ever gets the chance to go here... GO... it is amazing

Wow! What a great experience we arrived 45 mins early to have some drinks at the bar prior to our meal to our surprise the hostess who I think was the owner as well, gave us a table right next to the patio door and let us have free reign to go in and out as we pleased. We had the martinis passion, lemoncello, almond joy and then our waiter (ken maybe??) suggested the Cosmo... GET THE COSMO!!!! Delicious. The view was absolutely gorgeous and we had front row seats to watch a beautiful sunset! The hostess was sweet and took pictures of us in front of it. Her personality alone had us relaxing in no time! Now the food... For starters we had the scallops never had scallops before but they were like butter in my mouth!!! So delectable and the sauce was perfect to soak up with the fresh bread... Mmmmmmmm! My husband had the lamb never had lamb before either but it was cooked to perfection and seasoned nicely, very very juicy! I had the special... Pork shank with risotto. Fell right off the bone combined with the risotto and spinach I was in heaven!!!! Found myself saying mmm with every bite. Not really much more I can say. Now dessert we had the sticky toffee pudding again perfect! Topped with ice cream covered in coconut! My only complaint was I wish there was more of the sticky toffee drizzled on top... Other than that it was still perfect! Very well done Waterfront! We will be back!!!!

We live in Madison but are up in this area at least once a month. We try to visit the Waterfront whenever we are here. The consistency of this place is incredible. The chef's creativity and attention to detail shows on every plate. There are simply no losers on the menu. Try coming on Tapas night (Weds) or handmade pasta night (Thurs) for something special. Great, long-term staff will greet you with warmth and sincerity. The Waterfront is a shining light in Door County.

Food was very good but I feel the service was just average. Waterfront could also improve on the small details like having real menus instead of just paper. I feel like with some small adjustments this place would be 5-stars worthy. The view is excellent.

Thursday's are pasta sampler night, and they do it really well. Get a seat at sunset near the windows with a view of the water. Amazing atmosphere with quaint but upscale feel to it. I highly recommend this place.

Room and decor were nice. Hostess was very friendly. Waiter was somewhat inattentive. My perch was over breaded and too fried. There was plenty of food but it was just ok. Scallops were overdone even though we were told it was their signature dish. Beet salad was marginal. Overall it was a three star experience at 4-5 star prices.

Exquisite food! Truly a 5 star restaurant: At this high quality price is not an issue. We just were completing a sail boat charter and asked the owner (of the sailboat) places that he would recommend. The other two were closed so we decided to try this restaurant. We are very glad we did! The place does not require that people dress up. We weren't and felt out of place. However no one appeared to be perturbed by our presence. Our waiter, Greg, was friendly, prompt, etc. The three of us tried each others entrees and very much liked them all: Shark Paella, Norwegian Salmon, and a Whitefish Pot Pie. The appearance of the food is very attractive - check out their web site. This ain't Hardee's or McDonald's where the photos in the ads bear little resemblance to the product that I'm given. The wine was good. They serve a good NA beer called Buckler. The creme brulee was very good to excellent. A lovely golden light infused the restaurant as the sun went down! Despite the price we will go back - after my billfold recovers.

To find this gem in Door County is a treasure. If you want five-star dining in a beautiful, welcoming setting, then head to Waterfront. It is by far Door Co.'s best restaurant. Make reservations for sunset and enjoy the amazing view from the restaurant's many floor to ceiling windows. We started with salads (the Wedge and Greens). Both were perfect. For entrees we highly recommend the Grilled Tenderloin or Salmon special. They both ranked as the best we've ever eaten. An enjoyable surprise was the dessert. Try the Heath Ice Cream Bar for an unexpected, and completely mind-blowing, treat. We will be dreaming about that dessert for years! The only drawback is that the restaurant is closed on Mondays and we wanted to go back for seconds!

My Wife and I had dinner this past Saturday evening and the whole experience was just outstanding. The waiter was very informative, friendly and well trained. The whole atmosphere was just so welcoming yet elegant. The food flavors were very clean and well balanced and the presentations were also very stunning. Yes, the sunsets and views are wonderful here, but the whole package was just fantastic. Hats off to all of you from Waterfront. I am counting the days until my next visit...I would highly recommend this to restaurant to anyone! Thanks so much!!!! What an awesome time! Todd W

Absolutely five stars in all aspects...the service was great, the sunset was gorgeous...and the food...OMG! We were there on a Thursday and did the $25 3-course pasta tasting menu. It was to die for. We both started with the caesar salad, and then I had the crab tortellini and the pappardelle bolognese. Husband also had the crab and then some braised short rib gnocchi which was really unique. The "heath bar ice cream" dessert was one of the best desserts I've ever had. Definitely check this place out for a romantic dining experience. It was wonderful!

Great setting....beautiful view of the sunset. We got to our reservation early so we could enjoy a drink on the patio and watch the sun set. My husband had the tenderloin filet and is still talking about it. Good service..nice place for a fancy dinner.

Gorgeous restaurant with fantastic views of the water and sunset. The martinis and wine are served in beautiful glasses. The food is presented in an artful way and it is very good. We have dined here many times and will continue to do so. Highly recommend.
